December 2023 // Assignment
Playing OMORI was one of the most emotional and pivotal experiences of my life. The game delves into themes of trauma, how individuals process it, and the journey toward healing. I haven't cried as hard over any form of media as I did with this game. It profoundly affected me, so I felt compelled to create something to commemorate my time with it. The opportunity arose during my Vector Graphics final project: designing a deck of playing cards.
The game's narrative emphasizes the joys of childhood and the simplicity of earlier times. One of the ways this theme is communicated is through the use of children's games. An OMORI deck of cards seemed like a natural fit.
The back design of the cards is inspired by the sky in Headspace. The characters represented on the Jack, Queen, and King cards are heavily inspired by the character models in the game, and the same goes for the figures on the Jokers. The font used is the one created specifically for the game.
