December 2023 // LEGO
I love bees, and there’s no type of bee I love more than a Minecraft bee. When I first saw the
LEGO Minecraft The Bee Cottage
, I knew I had to get it. However, after building it and having the model in hand, I felt
a little let down. The set didn't quite capture the bee mob from the game as accurately as
I hoped, and I knew I could do better.
This project became my first big LEGO venture, and I wanted to create something that not only
resembled the Minecraft bee more faithfully, but also stayed true to the blocky, pixelated
nature of the mob in the game. Building it from scratch came with its challenges, especially
since I was tackling the task of making custom instructions for myself.
One of the biggest hurdles I encountered was dividing the model in half and building each section
in separate files. While I had already tackled some instructions before, this was a whole new level
of complexity. The process of creating subassemblies, something I had never done before, was
especially tricky at first. But as I worked through the issues, I gained more confidence and
figured out the best way to organize everything.
Looking back, I’m proud of how the final model turned out. The instructions for this project
are some of the easiest to follow that I’ve created, and it was incredibly satisfying to see
my passion for bees translated into a LEGO design that I felt truly captured the essence of
the Minecraft bee. This project not only helped me refine my skills as a LEGO builder but also
showed me the power of combining creativity with technical challenges.
