Curlworks Fish Art

November 2025 // LEGO

I've rarely come across an object as goofy and lovable as the Fish Bags by Curlworks, so translating one into LEGO felt like a natural challenge. Creating a functional bag out of LEGO wasn't exactly realistic, so instead I approached this build as a display piece, something that captures the spirit and form of the original rather than its utility.

Recreating the bag's soft, organic curvature proved far more difficult than I initially expected. LEGO's inherently angular nature made achieving smooth edges a constant challenge, but through plenty of trial and error, I was able to find a solution that feels both cohesive and faithful to the original design.

This project also pushed me into new territory with display stands. Designing something sturdy enough to support the model while presenting it at an angle was an undertaking, but one that ended up being surprisingly approachable. The final stand complements the build nicely and elevates the piece as a display object.

One of my favorite aspects of this build is its simplicity and flexibility. Recoloring the model opens up endless possibilities, allowing for a full range of variations, much like the real Curlworks product line. This adaptability helps the project feel more complete and thoughtfully designed.

While simple at its core, this is a build I genuinely adore. Reinterpreting objects I love through LEGO is deeply rewarding, and projects like this continue to sharpen how I think about form, abstraction, and the limitations of material.
