Lego Minecraft Desert Well

June 2024 // LEGO

One of the biggest factors that reignited my passion for LEGO, especially LEGO Minecraft, was Cheesey Studio's LEGO Minecraft Series. He showcased builds that were meticulously crafted to be accurate to the game, and I found it fascinating. One of the key things I learned from his series was that stacking five 2x2 LEGO plates on top of each other creates a perfect cube - something I never realized before. I always assumed that if there were an easy way to make perfect cubes, LEGO would have incorporated it into their sets, but I guess it makes sense why they haven't - probably to keep sets affordable.

The very first build in Cheesey Studio's series was a desert well, a simple but iconic structure from Minecraft. Though it's not the most functional structure in the game, it's charming in its own right. I loved the idea and decided to make my own version of the desert well, using Bricklink Studio to design the build and create instructions. It seemed like a perfect project, simple yet rewarding.

As I worked on it, I realized that I could add a few fun elements to make it more unique. Inspired by Cheesey Studio's Phantoms, I decided to incorporate them into my build. I've always thought the Phantoms are one of the cuter creatures in Minecraft, so I was excited to include them in my version of the desert well. I also added a moon to the scene, which was heavily inspired by the design from @farawaybricks on Instagram The moon helped to set my build apart from Cheesey's, while also giving me a great backdrop to display the Phantoms. With the addition of the moon, I was also able to introduce Husks, adding more life to the desert theme.
