Minecraft House Diorama

January 2024 // LEGO // Updated December 2025

This project marks a significant milestone in my LEGO journey, as it represents the first time I ventured into creating an entirely original design. While previous builds often involved recreating existing structures or scaling up designs, this diorama allowed me to fully exercise my creativity.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this build was the opportunity to explore advanced LEGO techniques. For instance, I utilized a backward 2x2 jumper plate to add texture to the barrels, a subtle yet effective detail that enhances the realism of the model. Additionally, I carefully aligned the flower pot to the center of the block, despite the limited availability of old brown parts, showcasing the challenges and rewards of working within constraints.

To elevate the diorama further, I decided to incorporate lighting into the design. After some research, I discovered a 1x1 transparent yellow plate from Brick Loot that fit perfectly into the lantern, allowing me to illuminate the space and add a dynamic element to the display. This addition not only enhanced the visual appeal, but also brought the model to life, making it a captivating centerpiece for my desk.

After receiving feedback on my application to the LEGO Design Talent Pool, I revisited the diorama with a focus on improving structural integrity. While my work has traditionally been more display-oriented, this feedback encouraged me to rethink how sturdiness could coexist with visual detail. The updated version features a more secure border and overall construction, making the model more durable (and far more resilient to curious cats, thanks Espresso). I also took the opportunity to redesign the instructions to match my current visual style, an update I'm especially proud of.

Reflecting on this project, I am immensely proud of the outcome. It not only serves as a testament to my growth as a LEGO builder but also fuels my passion for creating immersive, detailed models. The positive reception of the diorama has inspired me to continue exploring new techniques and concepts, with aspirations to tackle even more ambitious projects in the future.
