Moira Brickheadz

January 2024 // LEGO // Updated September 2025

Yet another custom BrickHeadz build from Overwatch, Moira is another character that, unfortunately, I do enjoy to some degree. Similar to Sombra, I originally designed a model for her back in late 2023/early 2024, but over time it started to feel more and more outdated. In all honesty, I was never completely satisfied with that first version of the model. The skin tone was tan instead of light nougat (the same issue I had with Astarion), the hair was kind of a mess, and her back tank was attached in a way that looked far too detached from her body to feel coherent.

While some of my other creative projects took a bit of a hiatus this summer due to work and other priorities, my LEGO builds became the main way I spent my free time, especially while working on my application to The LEGO Group. As I was revisiting my portfolio and looking over a handful of unfinished models, I decided it was time to finally polish Moira and bring her up to the same standard as my other builds.

This model also doubles as a gift for a friend, much like Astarion! Since the people I build these for are big fans of the characters, accuracy is always really important to me. Moira was especially tricky as her Overwatch 1 and 2 designs are actually quite different. I chose to take more inspiration from her Overwatch 1 look, since it has those more iconic and identifiable details that translated really well into LEGO form.

One of the biggest challenges was her hair and the unusual black band that wraps around her head. Getting that detail right without making the model look awkward or cluttered took a lot of experimenting. I ended up redesigning the hair to sit more slicked back, added some color variation for the shaved sides, simplified the back tank connection, and even fixed some smaller details, like giving her orbs to the correct hands and making one hand purple to show the corruption. Overall, I think the final version strikes a great balance between accuracy and design, being instantly recognizable while still looking clean and cohesive.
