The Bridge

August 2024 // LEGO // Updated September 2025

The Bridge is a LEGO Minecraft module I designed for a build competition hosted by Cheesey Studios held in August 2024. The challenge was to create a 16x32 stud module (equivalent to 8x16 blocks in-game, or half a Minecraft chunk) that could seamlessly connect with others, forming the foundation of a larger, player-driven LEGO Minecraft world. At the time, Cheesey hadn't introduced any player-made structures in his own LEGO Minecraft world yet, so I decided to tackle a classic essential in any Minecraft survival world: a bridge.

This module connects a forest biome and a taiga biome with a central bridge, packed with subtle storytelling details. From Steve and Alex making their crossing, to a skeleton reflecting on the remains of its fallen comrade, to tucked-away underground segments, every corner holds something to discover. It was a fun challenge to fit so much into such a compact space without it feeling overstuffed, but for a first module in a potentially sprawling world, it strikes the right balance between detail and simplicity.

While I didn't walk away with a win, the experience itself was incredibly rewarding. Collaborating with a passionate, creative community - sharing ideas, experimenting with build techniques, and seeing everyone's interpretations of the challenge - was the real highlight. It reminded me how powerful shared creativity can be, and how even a small build like this one can spark bigger stories.
